What are Wellcompost® certified materials?
Materials featuring the Wellcompost® certification are being processed like conventional plastics or bioplastics but in contrary they are truely home-compostable.
Thanks to their mechanical and technical properties, they are perfectly suited as a sustainable substitute for conventional plastics in many applications. And even if a part made from a certified material would ever be improperly disposed of, it will degrade and no microplastics will be created – whether on land or in water.
Material properties
Wellcompost® certified materials are available in a range of properties from stiff to flexible and from technical to food grade – just like classical plastics but without compromising on sustainability.
Manufacturing
Certified materials can be processed using conventional production methods from the plastics industry. Existing machines can continue to be used, making investments in new machines obsolete.
Applications
Wellcompost® certified materials are the perfect sustainable alternative for e.g.:
- Single-use products
- To go products
- Fast-moving consumer goods packaging
- Fashion retail parts
- Consumer electronic housing
- General packaging
Example
Single-use cutlery produced from food industry’s waste streams.
